The Positives of Starbucks
I believe Starbucks will struggle to adapt to changing consumer behaviors, however, they will continue to maintain their position as a leader in the upscale coffee market. On the positive side, Starbucks currently does an excellent job in practicing ecofriendly and sustainable initiatives. This can be seen in their use of recyclable cups and dairy free milk alternatives. However, it is vital that Starbucks continues to build on their sustainability practices and foster a sense of social responsibility to their consumers. In addition, over the next few years Starbucks may struggle to expand on their ecofriendly practices due to inflated costs, but I believe overall maintaining a positive brand image outweighs the costs associated.
Hurdles Starbucks will Face
On the other hand, I believe Starbucks will struggle to adapt to ever-changing consumer preferences. For instance, younger generations are now desiring products that are personalized and authentic. In order to keep up, Starbucks must shift their offerings to meet their consumers' needs and create a unique shopping experience. However, I believe it will be tough for Starbucks to maintain their upscale brand image while offering a niche experience with dietary personalization's. Over the next few years, I believe Starbucks will struggle to compete with local coffee shops and small cafes.
Opportunities for Starbucks to Improve
To combat this issue and maintain their positive brand image, Starbucks can aim to innovation and product differentiation. Currently, Starbucks excels at offering limited-edition drinks which can be seen in their seasonal offerings. Expanding on those products to offer monthly specials or drops would keep consumers more engaged in the business. Accomplishing this while also offering an upscale experience will allow Starbucks to maintain their premium status in the coffee industry.
Strategic Uncertainties
Overall, Starbucks will face the strategic uncertainty of its ability to adapt to evolving consumer preferences and demand. It is how the organization chooses to respond through growth strategies and business tactics that will establish Starbucks longevity in the marketplace.
